Ibiza is decided in winter: why anyone who wants to work in summer has to move now

Almost everyone thinks of Ibiza in summer. It's natural: that's when you see it, when you live it, when you feel like staying. And that's exactly why so many people arrive too late.

Those who live here all year round know it well: the summer season is built months in advance, when the island is quiet and the beaches are empty.

The real calendar

Those who open well in Ibiza almost always follow the same rhythm.

In autumn, you decide. It's the time to analyse the project, do the maths, understand whether it makes sense and in what form.

In winter, you build. You look for and negotiate the premises, start the paperwork, choose the professionals and suppliers, sort out the works.

In spring, you prepare the opening. You look for staff, solve the housing question, add the finishing touches.

In summer, you work.

What happens to those who arrive late

Those who decide in spring find themselves doing in a few weeks what should be done over months. The best premises are already taken. The professionals are swamped. The good staff have already signed elsewhere. Paperwork takes its own time, and it doesn't get shorter because you're in a hurry.

The result, all too often, is opening once the season has started, with premises chosen in a rush and a team thrown together at the last minute. Sometimes it means losing an entire year.

Why winter is the best time to negotiate

In winter Ibiza changes face. Owners have more time, those selling a business are more willing to listen, professionals can give you real attention. It's the period when you can afford to assess calmly, compare and negotiate.

In summer everyone is running and nobody has time for you. In winter, they do.

Winter is also the time to say no

There's an advantage few people consider: moving early gives you time to change your mind. If the analysis says the project doesn't hold up, you have all the time you need to adjust it or stop, without having signed anything and without the pressure of the season at the door.

The time is now

If you're thinking of opening or investing in Ibiza for next season, don't wait to see the June sun again. The numbers need to be done now, while you still have time to use them well.
